NEAR SUBSTR (Subsonic Store Separation)

Nielsen Engineering & Research

NEAR SUBSTR predicts the forces, moments, and six-degree-of-freedomtrajectories associated with external stores (missiles, bombs, and fueltanks) released from single, TER, or MER configurations on aircraft atsubsonic speeds. The method models the aircraft fuselage, wing, up tothree pylons per wing, and store racks (single, TER, and MER). Inaddition, the store ejector force can be specified as a function of time. For supersonic speeds, program NEAR SUPSTR is available. The workstation system version of NEAR SUBSTR includes methods forchecking input geometries through interactive graphic representations andhas a range of graphic outputs, including multiple windows, to aid ininterpreting the results predicted by the program. Because of the inputcomplexity of this program (aircraft and store geometries), theinteractive and graphic checking of input is a useful and time-savingfeature. The workstation is an environment where design engineers canrapidly interpret aerodynamic data and store trajectory performance datato determine a good design, or to discover problems with a proposed orexisting configuration in safe release of new stores from existingaircraft, or vice versa.
